It has always been my objective to bring beauty and healthy alternatives to women.
When a fire took over the cosmetic manufacturing company that I worked for, I opted to start my own business, in the same field, rather than taking on another job. I was divorced, with little money, and 3 children to support, but I realized that by being my own boss, I would either make it or not; but I was in control of my life. With 5 accounts that committed themselves and 7 women working with me, OGM Cosmetic Labs. was born. We cooked our cosmetics in stock pots with heating bands and developed just what our customers wanted. I beat the pavements and we grew, bringing innovative ideas to various markets. But one can never do this alone. With the amazing help from my new husband (also from the cosmetic business), and the great group of people that worked with me, we grew our company to become a multi-million dollar business working with major retailers.
But what most defines us is how we handle the good times and the bad times. Circumstances changed in my life and after22 years I retired and we closed our business. I thought that I would be that stay at home, retired person, doing all the things that I couldn’t do when I worked 24/7. However, that was not going to be the case.
The next half of my life
One of the issues that affected me was my difficult menopause and all the accompanying symptoms: Hot flashes/night sweats, moods swings and sleepless nights. It started when I was 43 years old; and it came with a vengeance. I went off of hormone replacement therapy after 10 years, and all my awful symptoms returned. Vaginal dryness was at the top of the list and those water-based products that are sold over the counter just didn’t feel right.
I started testing different oils to see which worked best for me. I would say to my husband, “I’m telling you this is working. We have a product!! But more important, we have a product that can help women.”
One of the advantages of working with raw materials and essential oils, as a manufacturer, is the ability to know how the different oils work. And once again, I couldn’t have accomplished this without the help of my husband, my marketing genius.
Of course it doesn’t hurt knowing two amazing doctors and a great chemist either. Dr. Leo Galland (integrated medicine) helped me put together our all-natural formula. Kevin Gross of GGW Labs worked on the percentages of oils and Dr. Miriam Greene (my gynecologist) tested it and endorsed it after seeing what it did for my body.
Who would have thought that GTechnologies would have come about because of my vaginal dryness!!
My friends always ask me questions about fashion (my first love and another whole story) or what to use on their body or face to make them look better, younger and healthier; so here I am, out of retirement once again, sharing what I know with others.
My relationships
When I look back over the 5 years I have been selling our products, I have met the most remarkable women. We share our stories. We share our issues. We help each other to feel good, regardless of our age. Most of the women I chat with are over 50 who are either peri, or presently in menopause, to those, such as me, that are post menopause. There are times when a woman just needs another woman to understand what they are feeling and going through. That’s where I come in. In many cases our symptoms are similar. If I can help another woman feel better, then I am doing what I was meant to do.
Our three products
Take care of your body, inside and out. I eat right; I exercise several times a week. Unfortunately, I had back surgery last year and I am still having problems, so the exercise is sparingly. I take a dance class, which includes stretching, a little yoga, breathing and visualization. It’s very comforting and I can go at my own pace. But most of all, I take care of my inner body. When I look back on my life, I realize that everything that I have done has made me a stronger person; the successes and the hard times too. I love being a woman over 50: It just gives you different opportunities. Look at me, I re-invented myself, and I’m in my 60’s and here I am writing about it. I’m a lucky woman.
