How to Use Flow In The Job Search
What is "flow"? Flow as described by thepsychology professor and educator,Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, is a state of being andbehavior. The behavior is one of complete absorption in a task. It is a transcendent state of being. An example would be of a musician whoseplaying causes the person playing to losesight of time, place & circumstances. Some people have called this a "divine rapture". How can a job seeker find "flow"? More oftenthere is tension, worry, frustration, anger, despair. It sounds as if a rapturous state of mind is beyond comprehension as one looks for a job. There are all of the preparatory steps: A resume, filling in applications, interviews and phoning. These are necessary functions of the jobsearch. But what if a person looking for a job could see a larger picture; one in which he or shemoves towards non-worry and does "go withthe flow" of events, putting the negativity ofbeing rejected or stressed into a state of inner knowing that he/she is doing everythingright? "Flow" sounds right for the job seeker touse. It could make the current job search the bestone of all. c, 2004 Marilyn J. This means that you shouldn't respond with comments about your hobbies, spouse, or extra curricular activities. Trust me, interviewers aren't interested. I don't know about you but the first thing that pops into my mind is what do they expect to pay? The next question I ponder is whether or not it's legal to request this information. Who will see my salary history when my resume and accompanying documents are received? Will it be the hiring manager, someone in the human resources department, or will it be a notoriously nosy employee whose job it is to open the mail? Will that individual broadcast my confidential information to other employees? Using Journal to Support Your Job Search Are you searching for a job? Avoid a Three-ring Circus with These New Interviewing Strategies I referenced the circus because I just finished another interviewing book that recommends asking for the job before leaving the interview.
