Business Name - How to Choose One
It's very important to get your business name right. You may
already have a business name but it's not too late to change
it. Let's face it; big organisations change their business
and product names all the time.
I named my business Fairweather Associates when I started in
1993. However, when I attended networking events with my
name badge on my lapel, people would ask - "Are you lawyers
or accountants or architects?" They would come up with
everything except what I actually did, which was
Professional Speaking and Consulting.
I've retained Fairweather Associates for my business bank
account; however, I'm much better know as -

Here are some things to think about when choosing your
business name:
#1 Make it easy to remember - I met a lady from a graphic
design business called - "Shout" - I'll always remember that
on.
#2 Make it easy to pronounce. People feel uncomfortable if
they phone you and pronounce your name incorrectly.
#3 Make it easy to spell
#4 Stir the customer's interest - make them want to ask more
- Jones the Plumbers doesn't exactly do it.
I met someone from - "Dynamic Plumbers" I had to ask - "What
makes you "Dynamic"
#5 Make it positive sounding - optimistic
#6 Make it changeable - "Apex Software" might want to start
selling hardware someday.
#7 Make sure it doesn't confuse you with someone else
#8 Make it attract the kind of customers you want -"equi-
store.co.uk" sells all sorts of equestrian products to the
horsy set.
#9 Make it fun, (if it's appropriate for your business) -
"Curl up and Dye" - not for the baldies
#10 Make it quirky - egg.com - would you believe it's a bank
Here are some suggestions to help you choose a name:
#1 Brainstorm - think about how you want people to feel when
they see or hear your name
#2 Think of humorous aspects of what you do
#3 Check other names and trademarks on the internet
#4 Check domain names
#5 Does your name sound cheap or expensive
#6 Think about picking a name that starts with "A." That
could be important if you want to be listed in a publication
such as Yellow Pages

Profile of Women Leaders
Leadership is based on two words, "pressure and support"and that the leadership is the power to influence people to move in a direction that you believe in your heart is a good direction for most people" (Fennell, 1999, p. 267). Adams and Yoder noted that "evidence from contemporary studies on sex-roles and leadership indicates that men and women, with similar education, career aspirations and training, have basically identical scores on measures of psychological masculinity and femininity." In other words, the traits we assume are important in good leadership can be found among people of both genders.
Entrepreneurship: Insight and Closer Look At The Entrepreneur
Life as an entrepreneur is the American Dream. To be able to be your
own boss, own your own business, never report to anyone else, work
from home, make unlimited earnings and income potential, etc. Owning
your own business most definitely has its perks. But on the other hand,
there are the downsides. However, being an entrepreneur myself I view
these only as challenges. The will to work hard, fanatically, solitary
isolation, being slammed of your ideas from other people, the
uncertainty of making the business grow to fruitation are all quite scary
considerations. But it's best to know that it is out there, that it is the
negative side. To be willing to gamble your money, other peoples
money, to invest a massive amount of time and energy into your
business is something that should be considered.
How A Woman Became A Successful Bill Collector In A Mans Industry And How You Can Too!
I have worked in the credit industry for over 17 years now. When I first started out, I only knew a very few women in the industry. That number has grown over the years, but not by much. Being a bill collector has always been categorized as a "man's industry".
Are You Ready To Be Your Own Boss?
You have this burning desire you want to be on your own. The temptation is so great that you want to quit your job. Enough is enough. You're sick of working for other people for a ridiculous pay.

Time Management Tips for Solo Entrepreneurs
Does it seem like everyone and everything is vying for your
attention all at once? It can be hard for solo entrepreneurs
to know what to do first, let alone try to find the time to get
caught up. Here are some time management tips that will help you
to stay on top of it all:
An Entrepreneurs Biggest Cost
When launching a new product or company, an entrepreneur must consider their biggest cost - the opportunity cost. Opportunity cost is an economic term that is defined as the cost of passing up the next best alternative when making a decision. For instance, if an asset such as capital is used for one purpose, the opportunity cost is the value of the next best purpose for which the asset could have been used. In the entrepreneur's case, this asset typically includes the entrepreneur's time and money.
Motivation and Commitment
Why do people start small businesses? The most frequently cited motivation for business start-ups is to allow the entrepreneur to achieve independence; money is secondary. Is this surprising? The other reasons named most often are that an opportunity presented itself, a person took over the family business, or the person simply wanted to be an entrepreneur. Identify your motivation.
Delivery Companies Make the Grade
In the United States we have the most efficient delivery service companies in the world. This is because the free market competitive system has pushed entrepreneurs to become more efficient to make more profit and to keep costs down. More and more products are now delivered right to your door. Businesses have found efficient ways to do this and consumers are loving it.
Work vs Play: Which is the Better Way to Make Big Money?
If you want to make big money, you have to play not to work.
Documenting Partnerships in Your Business Plan
Forging partnerships to improve market penetration has become commonplace, particularly for "new economy" businesses. And, most companies proudly mention their many partnerships in their business plans.
Veteran Entrepreneurs Are Growing In Ranks
When I'm not running my own business, writing articles about business, speaking to groups and organizations about business, or consulting with companies who want my advice about the running of their business, I teach a weekly class on the subject of (care to guess?) starting and running a business.
Franchisor Sample Grand Opening Launch for New Franchised Outlets
It is paramount that all franchising companies work hard in the critical launching of all franchises in their new territories. In this present period most franchisees come into the franchise systems with much personal debt and barely squeak by on their initial capital needed. One major error or mistake and the franchisee will fail due to under capitalization. Below it a sample outline and message to new franchisees; I recommend that you take a look at this and develop a policy and plan to help your new franchisees in the beginning gain ground on their new markets. You should copy this article and make notes on it and then take the outline below modify it to fit your business model and write several paragraphs for each number and lettered item to cement your new franchised outlet marketing plan. While reading this policy and outline below realize that it was written for a mobile car wash business and your plan will be significantly different but this will help you in making a first class strategy to win market share for your newest team members.
Franchising Companies Need New Franchisee Checklists
When franchise companies are moving fast in the market place they must pay attention to the details. If a franchisor fails to give the required items as outlined in the franchise agreement to the franchisees on the prescribed timeline they risk legal issues and regulatory issues. In addition even if they do provide the items on time, there is a chance later that a franchisee may claim that something was not provided and they will use this to break the franchise agreement, sue or file a complaint with regulatory bodies at the state level or even the FTC, Federal Trade Commission. But if you keep proper records and have checklists and monitor dates and deliveries you can win a law suit or force a regulatory agency to backtrack.
Realism vs. Optimism in the Business Plan
The most important function of a business plan is to create interest among investors so that they write a check. In achieving this goal, business plan writers are often challenged by determining the proper level of optimism in their plan. That is, they must create a compelling story to investors while maintaining credibility.
Competing With The Big Dogs
You run a small consultancy. You're well qualified, experienced and dedicated. Yet you can't get a meeting with the corporate decision-maker.
What Makes an Entrepreneur?
Rupert Steiner in his book 'My First Break' attempted to define the secret of becoming an entrepreneur and following interviews with over one hundred entrepreneurs, Steiner concluded that there was not one defined path. He has, however, drawn out observations of an entrepreneur's personality traits. They have a tendency to be rebels, outsiders, original thinkers, risk takers and break new ground. Entrepreneurs are always on the lookout for new business opportunities and have the guts it needs to start up a business. They have total commitment to what they are doing, which verges on obsession behaviour.
How To Start a New Business
While it is tempting to just leap into a new business because of it's exciting possibilities, a few key planning points will vastly increase your chances of success. These steps aren't difficult, but they're easy to skip. Many businesses ultimately depend on a slim profit margin, so planning can really help the process. Too many restaurant patrons, for instance, assume that running a restaurant seems fun because of the many restaurants they have visited, but restaurants have an especially high failure rate.
The Desire For Money, Do You Have Business Sense?
For those of us who grew up with parents who worked for businesses rather than owned them, the world of business can be quite a mystery. Even more so if we've dared to try to start one of our own. There is the factor of what type of business to start - a product or service business. There are the issues of doing a good market analysis, licensing the business, understanding the codes of law governing businesses, and determining just what type of business structure to choose - especially if the business will have employees. For example, should we start a sole proprietorship or a corporate business? It's a lot to work on, and it's not an overnight process to the road of success. But, the most crucial challenge to whether a business succeeds or fails lies deep within the realm of emotional versus financial intelligence.
5?4?3? 2...1?
A streak dating back more than three decades came to an end at midnight on New Year's Eve. For the first time since 1972, as America rang in 2005, "America's Oldest Living Teenager" was not in Times Square to count down the dropping of the giant ball. The 75-year-old host of ABC's "New Year's Rockin' Eve" was in the hospital, recuperating from a stroke suffered a few weeks earlier.
